Me nephew brought a used motherboard on EBay. It crashed his computer. I changed the motherboard. When I boot up, the IDE search finds the hard drives, but not the cd-rom or the dvd. Besides the obvious reasons like ribbon cable or power plug, is the any other reasons why these will not power up. I can't even get power to open the trays. Could that bad motherboard have fried the cd and dvd?

    Thanks.

Try them in another computer, if poss. .....does everything else work? ....check the bios voltages report ....I'm wondering if it's a bad power supply, since it's two devices.

I tried both on another computer and neither would power to open tray. Why would both stop working just like that?

Frankly don't know how a mobo would zap both drives ....unless there was some surge that went through your power supply and blew both mobo and drives ...should have blown itself, I would think!!
