Whenever I buy a new package of CD-R or DVD-R discs I examine them before I burn media onto them.

It depends on the brand but usually at least half of them are defective and with brands like HP, Imation, JVC, Taiyo, etc all of them are defective.

What I find is tiny air bubbles, particles or holes in the thermal composite layer of the cd. There is usually only a few tiny defects to each CD but there is going to be some data loss with whatever your burning.

Thats what data verification is for? Three posts sence you joined, all about cds being bad from the factory?

Well I'm the only one who ever mentions it. Data verification won't find the errors on the cd. I'm talking about tiny air bubbles in the composite thermal layer in every CD-R there is on the market.

I call bs, data verification runs through all the burned date, which would very much indicate any errors or mismatchs between data written and the original data on the hard drive. Either this impurities will cause data corruption or they wont.
