Is it possible to reformat an already used CD-R to remove all of the items on it. I have space to put more stuff on it but it does not recognize the disc when I try to put stuff on it. I have no trouble using what is already on it, cannot remove it or copy it, but I can use it.

No it isn't possible, as the CDR format is a one time thing once it has been burned and finalized. CDRW is different in that a different dye composition is used and does allow reformatting. Hope this helps!:)
