CD Recording speed question (Roxio/Nero)

Good morning everyone:

I wanted to do some comparison yesterday between Roxio & Nero. I tried to copy anything handy at 8x and 12x speed. I use Fuji discs, run anti virus a couple of times per day, defrag the computer 1x per week, have buffer under-run protection on both software packages and have a fairly fast computer P4, 3.06, Memory 1024 and hard-drive 250GB, cable modem. Only 10 percent of the hard-drive is taken up. I have all programs closed when recording or editing any music.
On both software packages I got the same error at 12x speed (Buffer under-run not able to handle the situation and errors on CD tracks. At the exact point the CD trey ejected the CD on both the Nero/Roxio software.

The CD I used as a test was a live CD, about 70 minutes with the longest track 10 minutes and shortest 2:30. What caused the freak-out please? I hope this isn't a stupid question but can the original source of the CD prevent you from the speed you want to use? For instance if I recorded a CD at 2x speed but your neighbor wants to record my copy at 24x, would that be harder to do compared to if I recorded it at 16x and he wanted it at 24x?

On Nero you have 2 options to prevent this 1: on the transfer screen click options >jitter correction--2:does yor drive support buffer underrun? Is it turned on?n(unfortunatley i forgot exactly where that is located in nero)
