Friend brings a computer over, and its having a problem reading cds. Okay, so after starting computer, i try to go to My computer... computer either will not show contents or just lock up. Right clicked on start menu, went to explore... locks up or doesn't show. If i take the cd out, I am allowed to view both. Then i tried to run from the run menu... and it just locks up also. "D:/Autorun.exe"

Okay, so I switched cables to his second cd-rom drive. Computer will not pick up that a CD is in the drive. I can view my computer, I can go to explore, but it will not show a CD in the drive.

I have replaced the CD-Rom cable going to the motherboard, and I don't know what else to do. I also went to Device Manager and searched for new drives through that process, but said I already had them updated.

5.0.2183.1 is the driver version for the second cd-drive, which is SONY DVD-Rom DDU220E, it dates back to 1999.... about that!

So what is my problem? and How do I fix it.
