CD Rom/DVD Rom GONE!!!

Has anyone else ever had this problem, where their CD Rom and DVD Rom do not appear in "My Computer" OR "Device Manager"? As if they're just plain GONE?

This has happened to me before in the past where the drives disappeared, but the last time it happened, they DID appear in Device Manager and all I had to do was delete the drives and reboot, and Windows XP picked them up automatically again.

THIS time, they're not there AT ALL, as if somehow they don't even exist.

PLEASE HELP, I need my disc drives back to I can reinstall XP.

To add, this happened very suddenly to me when I started up my computer, as if some sort of virus deleted both drives.

The C and D drives are still listed, but those are the only drives.

I'm not sure if this is any help, but I can tell you that my computer is a Packard Bell Platinum 5001 but has a new motherboard installed. It's 27 GB with a FAT 32 File System. Under the "Hardware" tab in Local Disk (C: ) Properties, it has listed: IBM-DTLA-307030 and QUANTUM FIREBALLlct08 13 as the Hard Drives, and the Floppy Disk Drive. If you need any more info at all, let me know.
