    Hello,

At this time I am using a Dell Inspiron 3252 computer, and Windows 10.

    The Dell has a built-in CD-ROM drive.

Device Manager has a "DVD/CD-ROM drives" entry, and under it is listed "TSSTCorp DVD+-RW SU-208GB".

Under Properties / General, I find that "This device is working properly."

That said, the device WILL NOT appear in File Manager / Explorer, at least not in any form I recognize.

Any ideas? I would like to be able to use it.

    Thanks,

    Kurt

Go to Device manager and look for your CD-Rom.

Right click on Device and uninstall it than reboot. It should pop back up.

    Try the suggestions here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...s-not-recognized-by-windows-or-other-programs

If this doesn’t work try this fix by Kapil Arya:

    Try these steps:

    1. Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges.

    2. Type the following command and hit Enter key:

    reg.exe add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0” /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

    3. Exit the Command Prompt and reboot. Insert a disk to test and the optical or DVD drive should be visible now.

What happens when you put a CD into the drive? Does it now appear in Windows Explorer?

Since Windows 10 doesn't contain DVD drivers, you will have to use a 3rd party program to play DVDs.

XoXgaming: I tried uninstalling it and rebooting, to no avail.
Goddess Bastet: I will try those things.
    plodr: No, it does not.

Now I'll try the other things and we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the help thus far.

Update or reinstall the driver for the optical disk drive
Drivers for your CD, DVD or Blu-Ray drive is included within the Operating System and hence does not require you to install a specific driver. Uninstalling the driver and restarting the computer will reinstall the driver which will resolve most issues related to the device driver.

To uninstall and reinstall the driver, follow the instructions below:

    1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box, then press Enter key.

(Note: You will need to login to Windows with an account with administrator privileges. If you get any prompts from User Account Control while running the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter, click Yes.)
    3. In the Device Manager window, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drive that is listed, and then click Uninstall.
    4. Click OK to confirm that you want to remove the device.
    5. Restart your computer (Once the restart is complete, the Operating System will automatically install the required drivers).
