I have a DVD drive, and think it's going out on me. Cd's like to lock up lately when I'm using it. Anyone have any input for me on how to test if my DVD drive is going bad?

Try copying large files. For example if you have an .avi file or anything larger than 500MB's on a CD. I know it sounds strange but in my experience all CD/DVD's that's about to give up have the common problem of not being able to read large files from a CD. The only thing you should get is a CRC error.

I'm not saying this is a certain way of telling if there's anything wrong, but if you have this problem you could be sure it's faulty, not the other way around though.

To my knowledge there are no other way of testing it other than swapping it for another and see if that corrects the problem.
