    HI
My CD-ROM tray opens up for no reason under Windows 98. Even when I'm not sitting at the computer. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: CD-ROM tray opens up for no reason - ME TOO!

I'm having a similar problem. the CD-Rom tray opens and closes over and over again. Usually if the computer has been idle for more than a day, it will operate normally for 15 to 20 minutes before the tray starts going in and out. But if for example, its already going in and out, and I shut down and reboot within the hour, the tray opens and closes over and over right away. Its driving our bulldog puppy crazy.

I've run Spybot and Adaware and several virus scans and cant find any that I cant seem to remove using those programs.

The computer is running Windows ME 4.90.3000, its a Gateway Pentium III.

When I look at the Running Tasks nothing really jumps our at me except for the fact that kernel32.dll is listed three times and rundll32.exe is also listed. What are these tasks?

Someone told me to reboot in "safe mode" and see if it still does it. If not, then I should be able to find the problem, but wouldn't have the first clue what to look for. My first question is how do I reboot in safe mode. I know how to do it on my laptop (F8) during the boot up blank screen. But this Gateway won't let me do that. PLEASE ADVISE!!

    Thanks
    Darren

Hello Daren, don't mean to be picky but you may be able to receive more help if you start a new thread with your problem. This is an old thread, practically dead, so starting a new one will most likely get more visitors and a better chance for help.
