cd-rom will play dvds but no cds

three weeks ago my cd rom stop playing any cds it will play any dvd the light comes on for about 2 seconds then goes out, then it says please insert cd in drive d even when theres a cd already in the drive tried run but it shows no list from cd.i have an (aopen com5232 aah-pro combo drive) and i:m running windows xp my computer is1year old device manger shows error application hang (101)1002. can any one help me i'm hopelessly lost.

 

seems like your cd-rom laser went bad. if it is still playing dvds then keep it for that. just buy a new cd-rom from the store. they are very cheap. online you can get them for like 10 bucks.


maybe look for old computers and grab a cd-rom out of them. the speeds of cd-roms dont really matter much any more.
