Hey peeps, I was enjoying a great game of GTA Vice City, when the audio stopped, then the entire game extremely slowed down. After having to cancel the game I tried to eject it from my f drive and it wont come out. The entire drive will not eject. Im pretty sure the Play Disc( gta vc) is crooked or is blocking the drive from opening(obviously).

My question is....Can I manually retreive my Disc, or will I need a tech guy? Cuz Im sure this will mean having to manually get into the drive itself. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thx.

On most CD drives there is a small hole ( manual release ) on the front that you can push a paperclip or something thin into to release the tray.

Yeh I found that earlier after looking at the HP Support site. How far back should I poke? Do you think I pushed far enough back? I did this earlier and nothing happened? Any ideas?

Push back a little further, if I remember right its about an inch or so you have to push it in.

Not much else you can do other than remove the unit from the tower or whatever, and pulling it apart.

theres a little metal(?) lever inside that youre trying to hit with a paper clip, you should feel it when you push it in...it is easy to miss to the side of it, probably about the same amount of pressure as ejecting a floppy disk. does the drawer try to eject? or does it just not respond....also try holding down the eject button for a few extra seconds...not sure if thats effective for anything, but im pretty sure i've done it before.

Yeh it feels similar to the floppy disk drive. But when pressed it sounds like it wants to open just like normal, only it doesnt open at all. Like i said it sounds as if the disc is blocking the tray from opening. I may have to get a tech guy to get it out........goddamn Gta vice City...although this is the first time its ever gotten stuck. Is this a sign of my drive going on? Is it repairable still?

with the power off ( this stops the motors from pulling against you ) on some drives you can use your fingernails on either side of the tray to force it back slowly, but thats a decision for you to take, may also need to have the paperclip pushed into the relase hole.

Its possible your drive tray could be failing or it's just the cd is not sitting correctly in position and stopping the tray from opening. Reparable ~ yes/no depends on what they are going to charge you? as it maybe economically viable to buy a new one over the repair costs?
