I am having the same problem...I am using Windows XP and one day my CD-RW was working fine and then it disappeared from my computer. I get Error message 39 and don't know exactly what to do (I am not exactly a novice on this machine but neither am I an expert). I have tried uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling but that doesn't work. Windows says I have the best device for this already installed and when I go into Device Manager, the problem driver keeps reappearing. Can you help me in very specific terms????????? Thanks! SueC

Ok it could be a few things here. First I'd makes sure all my connections were good and then just take a look at the jumper pin on the cd drive itself to make sure it is not loose maybe. From there you may as well see what kind of a cd player it is and write that down and vist the site to load the specific driver you need for it. You can try the link here http://www.cdrom-drivers.com/ and let us know the results.
