Put the disc in the drive, closed it, now it won't open!
I tried putting the pin in the tiny hole, which usually opens the drive. It didn't work. Tried to eject from the drive folder, still won't open.
I'm out of ideas and there has to be something else I can try?

This is a Dell Dimension 4700 with a Samsung CD-R/RW SW 252S drive. It's like 5-6 years old, never gave me a problem before.
    HELP ME, PLEASE!!!

    Download this http://file.walagata.com/w/perk/Assorted/CD-Tool.zip
Unzip it and it is a 135kb exe file click on it and you have two options: extend cupholder and retract cupholder. Click on extend.
If your tray does not extend, then something broke and you might have to open the computer and remove the optical drive.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try. I got it open with a pin, but I think the whole drive is shot. It started spinning real fast, then the music began skipping and it broke the disk that was playing. Part flew out of the drive! oh, it's stuck again, not surprised.
Sigh, 6 years of usage, time for a new one.

That software will not help. You will have to pull the drive out of the machine, and unscrew the four phillips head screws holding the cover on the bottom of the drive, then go from there in getting the tray to be manually rolled out. No software out there will do anything, if you have already tried the paper clip trick, and tried pushing the button.

If the drive is five to six years old, it is most likely shot, and should be replaced with a new unit at this point, once you get the old one out of the machine.

You actually had a disk physically break on you? That's pretty rare but considering the speeds that these things run at, I'm surprised that it doesn't happen more often! Glad that you didn't catch any shrapnel.;)

Happens when the cd or dvd is played a lot, due to the ring will start spider cracking from the stress.

Ya, Mythbusters did a segment on that. I believe it was the router at 18K RPM that killed 'em.:-D Being a geek, I found that interesting.;)
