CDBurnerXP Not Recognizing External DVD Burner

I have CDBurnerXP and use it alot. It normally has a drop-down menu for the built-in internal CD-burner (Drive 'E'), and the external DVD-burner (Drive 'F'). I use it to erase rewritable DVDs alot.

For some reason the drop-down menu no longer detects the external DVD burner, Drive 'F'. I went to Device Manager and My Computer, and they both detect and have an active icon for the 'F' external drive. The wires are all plugged in......

I know there is an easy fix for this, because we did it once with my DivX player, which also now detects the external 'F' drive in question.

Well, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it just isn't recognizing the external USB DVD burner. It always did before. Now, all of a sudden, it won't - but all my other apps, etc find the external drive.

I know there is an easy fix for this - a missing file or something....:confused

 

That is odd?

Take a look at Burnerxp's driver download page and see if you can find one for your drive.

Close, but not an exact match for my USB Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-812S.
One or two were close, but not exactly.

Like I said, it was fine for ever, until today......now it wont 'read' the USB external DVD drive. Just the one app.

Is there another freeware app that will erase rewritable DVD's ??? That's all I ever used it for.... It could erase a rewritable DVD is seconds !


Any other free app that can do that would be nice.

Hi Scott' yeh ther are many many app's that will wipe a Re-Writable disc, infrarecorder will do the Job (and pretty much every other job) not sure on the speed though as i don't use re-writables.

On the subject of BurnerXP not working....

Have you altered or created any new drive letters or partitions recently?

Are you using any other new USB devices?

Is it possible your security is blocking it?

[it's unlikely but i was able to recreate the problem by denying certain access rights, i had to fiddle with a few bits though to get the exact same problem you describe so it seems very unlikely to be this but i thought it worth a mention.]

Thanks for the link to that new app 'InfraRecorder'. It does the job I was using the other one for.

As for a cause.....as I recall, I was about to erase one, and a pop-up asked if I wanted to update CDBurnerXP? I clicked yes, and it downloaded a patch, or whatever it was. Anyway, after that, it seems, the app doesn't 'find' the external drive. No, I haven't done any of those things below....like changed partitions or letter assignments.

So maybe the new download has a bug :crap or a flaw:crap. Do you think I should contact the author of that program and tell him/her what happened to me ?

Yes: by all means, contact the authors and report the bug...it's almost impossible to create every situation in a lab environment, and this is one they may have missed...

Most software manufacturers have a bug report link, so it shouldn't be a problem, but sometimes an e-mail will do the trick...
