CDROM stops working

hey geeks out ther,i am really confused as my BenQ Combo CD/DVD drive has stopped working suddenly......it doesnt read any cds..though the cd tray opens and closes perfectly.....i dunno what happened to itconfused ....i have uninstalled the drivers of the cdrom and restarted my computer so that the windows might install the drivers again automatically....but it doesent happen...,,I dont have a restore point created in windows too........confused
is there any way i can get some help about this thing or is there any software download???
Did i miss any file in windows which made this happenrolleyes ....coz i am not the only one who uses this computer....my family members too use it....
Please need help immediately:cry

Hi

Sadly first off the drive could actually be dead, but a common cause for a drive to not respond to opening disks is that some other software has caused registry errors and suchlike, have you installed any new software before this happened?

In Device Manager are their any yellow ! marks by CDDVD drives or check the CDROM drives Device Status for error messages,

but this can fix many drive issues http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us ( just backup your registry first, open registry, type regedit in run box, then once open click Computer then clcik File > Export and save a copy of registry )

thank u for ur suggestion,Halo........but my cd rom is identified under Device manager............but i will still try ur other method
