CDRW format

    Hi
    Had some CDRW given to me, they are in INCD format, if I erase them what do I need to format them with to allow them to be used between different machines with different burning software on them or wiil the INCD be universally accepted by other software?

    Should be universal, but I am not sure what INCD format is. There are always a few rare incompatibility problems found between certain CDR's and CD's, but pretty rare.

    let me get this straight- the CDRW's are "in CD" format? ;) :p

    Sorry should have explained better, the CDRW's have been formatted using Nero burning ROM "INCD"Option. This I believe is a feature of the Nero suite of progs, but I'm not sure if they'll work on a machine that doesn't have Nero on it.

    Nero's INCD and Roxio's Drag-to-Disk both use whats called Packet Writing or UDF format, they should open up on an XP PC fine as it has a limited form of UDF reader ( only read not write ) or on another pc with packet writing software but sometimes that doesnt always go to plan, they can be read on non xp machine but additional software reader is needed and it will only allow you to read not write.

    Also the CD drive has to be compatible with UDF, some early ones are not pre 1999 after that year it was upto the manufacturers to test and comply with UDF on there drives.


    To erase then you will need software capable of erasing a CDRW, the above software and also I just for curiositys sake tried the free CDBurnerXP Pro and it will read/write and erase a CDRW
