Many times when I put a disk in the drive it isn't recognized (go to My Computer and there's nothing showing in the drive) in XP yet if I reboot the system the disk is recognized afterwards. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Well there is always the possibility that the drive is failing but first try booting to Safe Mode then go to the Device Manager and delete the drive from the listing. Then reboot normally and Windows should redetect the drive and (hopefully) it will then work normally. :)

Start>Control Panel>System. Flick to the Device manager. Find your CD-Rom drive and make sure Auto-insert-notification is turned on.
