    Heya -

So I'm looking for some good software to connect my Audiovox 8910 to my comp to transfer pics and ringtones back and forth. I've been looking around for one that I can download and try first because I've found from past experience that if I order something before trying it, it usually doesn't end up working!
Anyway, I ordered a cable that connects my phone to my comp but it didn't occur to me that I would need software! (oops!) So, do you guys have any suggestions??

    Thanks!

Sweet! Thanks for the info...it's working great. One last question though - any suggestions for a program to shorten mp3s? I need to shorten them to about 30 seconds for ringtones....

    hi newgroove...

i too also recently purchased a Data Link cable for my LG VX 7000 phone (off Ebay) and realized I didn't have any of the software to use the cable... I googled a search and found a site called Cell Phone forums. From there i found a sticky linking me to a free download of a program called QPST... i found it quite easy to tranfer data back and forth between my phone and computer... of course one of hte users on that particular forum created a tutorial which was VERY helpful...

i immediately wanted to start making my own ring tones with my mp3's... i tried a few mp3 editing programs and found out that the easiest one to use, at least for me, was a program called Wavepad

since Majorgeeks doesn't host this program, i'll provide you with a link to where you can download it.

let me know if you need any help using it... i had never used any mp3 editing software prior to this and really didn't have much difficulty... just be sure to keep your samples to under 30 seconds and you might have to rename the files for them to upload onto your phone correctly (i had to rename mine from .mp3 to .mid, didn't do any converting or anything)

    mp3DirectCut mp3DirectCut main 98

mp3DirectCut is a non-destructive audio editor and recorder for MP3. You can directly cut, copy, paste or change the volume with no need to decompress your files into a pcm format. This saves encoding time and preserves the original audio quality, because absolutely nothing must be re-encoded.

The built in recorder lets you create MP3s "on the fly" from every source. Using the Cue sheet support or the pause detection and the split function you can easily divide longer files, e.g. CD images.

mp3DirectCut is very fast and gives you extensive edit functionality:
MP3 visualisation and VU meter · Easy navigation · Fading, volume setting, normalizing · Pause detection · Direct recording of MP3 (ACM and Lame encoder supported) · Layer 2 support · ID3v1.1 support · Cue Sheet support
