Certificate expired

My major malfunction today is in Mozilla Thunderbird.
All mail I attempt to send brings a warning that some sort of
SMT Server certificate has expired. I can override these warnings
and force it to send . . . but this is very annoying.

What can I do to correct this deal ?

If you mean "SMTP", try changing the "Use Secure Connection" to "no" in Thunderbird>Tools>Account Settings>Outgoing Server (SMTP)>Edit

Thanks for giving this some thought. I examined the area of Thunderbird that you mentioned and the part about "Use secure connection" is checked as "NEVER".
The problem persists.

The warning is that . . .
"localhost" is a site that uses a security certificate to encrypt data during transmission, but its certificate has expired on 3/6/2004 10:10 AM"

The certificate in question is . . .
Common Name localhost
Organization RTFM, Inc
Organization Unit Widgets Division

The only thing I can think of that I changed is that I recently (2 days ago) used Registry Mechanic to clean up this machine.

Excuse me.
I tried your suggestion again.
I found the area you spoke of and realized there was
another place that mentions Outgoing Server.
I changed that as you suggested and now I seem to have
returned to normal.
