OK, I just got a new (Vista) laptop and want to have my iTunes library on it, not necessarily for syncing with the iPod (though mabye sometime) but just to have the music on there.

I started out by copying a backup of my iTunes folder from my primary PC to my laptop. However, this was not the most current version of the library, as I have recently added a few songs. So I installed MS SyncToy, created a folder pair across my network between my core iTunes folder on my main PC and the iTunes folder on my laptop.

The sync ran great, only catching the files that were more recent than the last backup, but although it copied the MP3 files, it did not add them to the library listing on the laptop. I am not sure why, as any iTunes library database files would have been copied over too i would think.

I want to easily be able to update my laptop library across the network so that it matches the core library on my PC.

Any ideas what went wrong and how to make this work?

Hmmm...interesting. That is not quite what I was wanting to do, but close. He was setting up to SHARE a library so that any changes to it from any PC would be reflected.

I just want to update my laptop to bring in any changes to the main PC.

I retried this morning, deleting the entire iTunes folder from my laptop, copying it back over from my backup drive, creating a folder pair in SnycToy, running the sync, only this time, when I opened iTunes again after all had been copied, I held down shift and pointed to the iTunes Library file. I don't know if this made a difference, as I did not check to see if the songs were showing up in the iTunes Music listing after the Sync.

It could have been just a fluke the first time, like the lirbary database did not copy over or something. I will play with it some more by adding some tracks to the main library and resyncing.
