In the control panel Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings I have set Wireless Network Connection as second and Local Area Connection as first choice. It seem it did not start to local area connection as first choice. When during starting it show it is finding the wireless network, after a while the icon turn a yellow spot, then the local area connection start searching as shown by the tray icon, it spin for quite a while then turn to exclamation mark after a while it connect to local area connection. I wish it could start directly to local area connection at start up instead of searching for others before to local area connection. My OS. Windows 7 ultimate. Thanks.

First, there is no first place and second place for network connections. I suspect they are listed alphabetically with L for LAN coming before W for Wifi.
Mine are listed in the same order even though the netbook I'm using has never had a cable attached to connect to the internet. It has only ever been connected wirelessly.

You do have a cable attached, correct? If you don't it will use the wireless unless you turn it off.

In the Network and Sharing Center, in the left column, select manage Wireless networks.
Highlight your wireless network and a box will pop up. Remove the check/tick from
Connect automatically when the network is in range. That should stop it from attempting to always connect to your wireless network.

Thanks for all who have responded to my problem. I tried out from DavidGP post. It help a little that is it won't show the wireless network icon when it start but it seem it is searching others. The internet access icon keeps turning and came out with X the a exclamation mark after that it connect to the LAN it takes quite a while to get to LAN. Now what step should I try to get it load faster.

Thank you for this information. It is almost the same as what I have done except I did not play with the setting by changing the metric as I do not know where the setting is.

    Follow the pictures:
    1. Network and Sharing Center
    2. Change adapter settings
    3. Advanced then Advanced Settings
    4. Adapters and Bindings tab select Ethernet
    5. Highlight ethernet or whatever the wired connection is labeled) and click the Green arrow to move it above all the Wifi entries. You might have to click the arrow several times until it is in the top position.

    1. Network and Sharing Center
    2. Local Area Connection - Click on
    3. Properties - Click on
    4. Internet Protocol Version 4 - Highlight
    5. Properties - Click on
    6. Advanced on General Tab - Click on
    7. Metric at Bottom - Click on and place number in box

Lowest number becomes the default first choice in connection.
Configure both wired and wireless connections if you have them.

plodr, about about changing your network adapter settings.
On one of PCs it wouldn't connect via the cable I had, so on account of thre tye of messages I was getting, I decided to turn the NIC off, then the option to turn it on again was reye out, so I decided to reboot...next my computer was disabled because I had modified the hardware and WPA thought it was a different computer...it told to me to connect to the internet to revalidate my o/s, but the as the NIC was off, I can't...as I'm running XP MS help/support is no use...any ideas ?

making certain changes to your hardware with a aftermarket installed MS o/s can result in you needing to revalidate you MS o/s. Be warned
(This does not seem to affect manufacturer installed M/S operating systems, which have a different licence)

No idea. I have never disabled a NIC and I haven't looked at XP in much detail for 2 years.

Thanks for all the useful tips and help given by you all. After setting the metric to 10 and also disable the wireless connection it seem it is still slow about 2 min. to get to the LAN connection. It start with a 'x' then '!' and the 'blue circle' will spin for quite sometimes before it is connected to LAN. Can you all give further suggestion on what to do.

Check for updates on drivers for LAN connection and router firmware if that is used.
