I've just brought myself a Microsoft sidewinder gamming mouse (VERY impressed) and there is nowhere in the config to change what the setpoint short cut buttun on the top of the mouse does. Does anybody know a tweak to make this button useful ?

    Thanks

By "the config" you mean the intellipoint software? If so, what version?

Also, can you provide a specific model for your mouse?

I have version 7.10.344 installed. But there is NOwhere in tehre to change this button and on XP this button open the setpoint software. This is great but after he first 2-3 days and you've setup the mouse how you like it the button becomes redundant. I was hoping somebody would know a little hack/fix to get some more use out of this button.

Why are you talking about SetPoint? SetPoint is Logitech's software. You have a Microsoft mouse now, so uninstall SetPoint and install Microsoft's software if needed.

I would change the question, but can't seem to find the edit button in this forum.

The edit feature in this forum only remains available for a short time - I believe it's 10 minutes - after posting. Well, I least we got that discrepancy cleared up.

I don't know whether I can help, since I'm much more familiar with Logitech than Microsoft's mice. I do have a fairly new Mircosoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 on one computer and can change the function assigned to buttons.

How are you accesing the configuration options? Through an icon in the system tray or from the Mouse panel in Control Panel?

you CAN change ALL the buttons apartf from the 3 DPI setting buttons and the quick launch button in the intellipoint drivers. You can even change macro's there, but you can not change the quicklaunch button there. You can Even change what each button does PER program ( i have the back/forward buttons assigned to zooming in Photoshop).

If you're feeling experimental, I've been able to configure custom keyboard/mouse buttons without using the manufacturer's software by searching the registry, and editing entries that appeared to be program calls that I wanted to change. (This was for a Logitech product, however)

With any luck, you might be able to find a key/value that contained the path and/or filename of the Intellipoint executable, and edit it to a program call of your choice.

Not that I am recommending this, but if you really want it done, it may be an option. Just be sure to back set a restore point, and backup any reg keys you change. Heck, an image of your system might not be out of line if you're really nervous.

I'm gonna give this a try for my logitech keyboard as the logitech drivers are a mess on XP X64 as BOTH 32&64bit drivers run and take up about 50meg.

I rather hoping that somebody with a Microsoft mouse had found a program/tweak that I could use to change the behavior of this button. I have found the settings in the registry for the mouse but sadly NOTHING for this button. The buttons are numbered 2-4-6-8 in the registry under intellipoint and I can edit their behavior there. I have tried adding numbers 1-20 but none controll this intillipoint quicshortcut button.
