Good morning all...I am hoping that there is some way to change the os setting for my inspiron 1525 from vista to win 7. I noticed that when I went to F2 setup that my new os is not listed. Is this something that is embedded by Dell and if you do not buy products from them then you are out in the rain?

What has brought this all on is that my battery is plugged, not charging and the ac adapter is not recognized. So silly me purchased a dell adapter from amazon and guess what that's right I am still getting the same message. Oh, and I also purchased a new battery. Of which these new purchases haven't made a diff.

I went to support.dell.com to upgrade my bios however those updates are for the vista os.

    HELP....

    Thank you,

I guess the reason you aren't getting any responses 4bow is that ppl are a bit confused here as to exactly what your problem is. Well I am anyway ;)

First F2 and the BIOS. F2 at boot takes you into the BIOS setup screen. The BIOS has no idea which operating system is installed on your comp and won't look any different whatever OS you install. So at this stage I would say forget the BIOS as it is hardly ever necessary even look at it, let alone try to change its settings.

Now the power side, which seems a bit more serious. Does it boot with a mains connection and the battery removed? Does it boot with a mains connection and the battery in place? Does it boot with no mains connection and the battery in place?

Try to give as much info as you can and forget the OS for the present.

To add a bit to what Earthling said:
You can't change your OS by just changing some setting. You have to install Win 7, either by first completely erasing your hard drive by formatting it and then installing Win 7 or by upgrading the OS from Vista to Win7. Either way, this requires a software installation; it's not some "setting" you change.

I gather you're referring to your purchase of an AC adapter and a battery from amazon.com. No, you do not need to purchase from Dell. Of course, whatever seller you choose, you would need to select products that are compatible with your computer. I purchased a battery for my Compaq laptop from amazon.com and it works fine. My model computer was specifically mentioned on amazon.com. Was your inspiron 1525 identified as a compatible computer for the battery you purchased? Likewise, for the adapter?

Has your computer been dropped or otherwise subjected to accidental rough treatment?
