    Ok heres the prob.
One of my friends gave me an old IBM Aptiva (machine # 2198 for the nosey). and the P3 chip that was in it, bit the dust. I had an old P2 333 layin around and thought id put that in there, as all im wanting to do with it is check email and kill time-no real power needed...So, I put it in, fire it up, comes up and says i need a bios update disk for this chip. So im a little puzzled by this so i go on to the next screen into system summary and i see that its reading my penitum 2-333 as a Celeron 133 with a FSB of 66. Then i realized, wtf, why do i need an update disk for going DOWN in speed? theres no jumpers on the board and no bios setttings pertaining to the chip/clock/bus/voltage-NOTHING! any insight....anyone?!??! Do i have to shell out and by an old slot 1 p3 JUST for this piece!?!?!? if so im chunkin it....thanks for the help...

sounds like the mobo isn't compatible with the P2 ... they aren't always backward compatible

I more than likley have a few p3 slot cpu's laying around, i think they are around 350-400 range, if these would do you any good, you can have one for shipping. ed

    Hi there
I need not a P3 processor - - I hope, it is still working through all of this

I need a new BIOS, or a better way than the IBM web site that works.

my new system board card, just got has no bios and its Rom chip is solderd in,
my old system board is a removable bios ROM chip and it works, but I can't move it to the new board that needs it, that has none, because the new one is solderd in

    I need a BIOS, a file, a flooy disk image -whatever - - - -not a CPU ( I hope )

Thanks, I hope you can point me in the right direction

About the only chance that i see is go to ibm site and download the bios and put it on floppy, the bios is something that is for that board only, you cant use another bios meant for another board , you cant add another processer and expect it to work in the wrong board, and you cant change the bios just to add the wrong processer, i hope you understand. ed
