    Hi,

    I have Windows XP Pro x64, SP2.

My DVD drive is Drive E. Would there be problems if I change it to Drive B?

B is reserved for a second floppy disk. Even though most computers don't come with them anymore. Plus your drive may not work then.

    Hi Tim . . .

Would it recognize it if I changed the DVD drive to Drive Z?

Yes, it should. You can do that in Device Manager.

Right-click on My Computer, and select Manage. Then right-click on the drive you want to assign a new letter to and select "change letter" (can't remember the exact term for Xp, I'm in Vista 64-bit), and select X or Y or Z or some other guaranteed-not-to-be-used letter. :)

Since it's my boot drive, would I have to do anything else?

I don't expect you'd need to. Your boot drive is identified as such in the BIOS and what posted affects Windows only.

Does your BIOS see the drive and label it correctly?

BIOS sees my DVD drive as first in Boot Order Sequence but it doesn't associate it with a drive letter.

BIOS wouldn't. Drive letters are a Windows thing that the BIOS would not do. If the BIOS sees your DVD drive and your hard drive, you simply need to set one as primary and the other as secondary, and you should be good.

If it's still not working, we might need detailed error messages.

Ok, I'll give it a shot. Thanks :)
