    Hi
My son gave me a Vista computer and I am trying to get my favorites from the old XP. I did a backup and was finally able to get it restored to the Vista computer... *another story*
Now my problem is...... My XP favorites show up under "users" as my old XP profile name. I tried to copy them and it will not let me access that profile.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to be able to transfer my old favorites over to my new Vista Profile?
    thanks

What did that "backup" from your XP computer include? By "XP favorites", do you mean Internet Explorer Favorites, or what? Is your old computer still in your possession and in working condition?

    Thanks..
My computer is still in my possession but I have only 1 monitor so I cannot have them both up together.
Yes I meant the IE favorites.. desktop etc. I did a backup and it restored fine but it restored under the old user name. My son already had a user account set up for me on the new one.
I guess if I have to I can go hook it up again... use a CD or something and copy them to it... but I just thought if I could gain access to the account it would save time.
    thanks

Honestly, I'm still not clear on this "backup" procedure you're trying use to transfer settings or whatever from WinXP to Vista, but I have some doubt that it's a valid procedure for going from XP to Vista.

Anyway, I suggest you connect your monitor to the old computer again and just save your IE Favorites and then "import" them into IE on the new computer. To export Favorites from IE on the old sytem, go to File, Import and Export, and proceed with exporting Favorites. You need to know what file and where the Favorites are being exported to so that you can grab that file and copy it over the the Vista system and import it into IE.

For further detail on the procedure, see How to import and export the Internet Explorer Favorites folder to a 32-bit version of Windows
