hey- i dont really know if its software, but then again i dont konw if its hardware... i play unreal tournament, and i ahve gotten banned from various servers, not for cheatin, just screwing around, but i would like to know how to refresh or reset my ip.... i went in my network and change it manually, it went from xxx.xxx.xxx.x39 to xxx.xxx.xxx.x38, and when i booted up firefox, nothing loaded. then i unplugged my cable router for about 2 minutes, because the company said that it would give me a new ip if i power cycled, but it didnt happen

Many broadband providers tag an IP address directly to the MAC address of a computer.

Which essentially means the only way to get a new IP addres is to install a diffrent NIC and then use it.

Although if you were to keep the cable modem disconnect long enough the ISP lists would eventually clear your MAC, meaning it would get a new IP. Of course some ISP clear these lists once a day. While others clear them once every couple months. So the unplugging the modem idea would work, but it may have to be unplugged for many days.
