Right I've just come in from a shift at work and I'm fed up.

I've spoken to the manager and duty managers about it and they seem to be doing nothing so I'm resorting to looking for another job.

Basically, I don't feel I'm being treated fairly, there's a lot of bitching about people there, some have said that I've been slacking, I feel that people abuse my work etc.

    So, what next?

I'm going out tomorrow to look for a new job and I need some advice -

What do you guys find the best way of talking to people about jobs, as in asking about employment in the place etc?

I'm planning on going for big commercial stores (new Toys R Us has opened in Watford which would be amazing!) but also going to look at electrical goods etc.

Any input would be gladly appreciated as always guys :)

What you working in at present McA, I forget?

Depends on the company or actual workplace in how well management look after their employees and listen to issues that arrise, sadly many work enviroments no matter what sector they are in have bitchiness and harassment to employees.

Good jobs and more so a good working enviroment ( bosses and collegues ) is hard to find these days, but findable.

Best bet to find or ask about employment when or if not a recruitment drive is on, is to create a unique and good looking CV ( Resume ) nothing too fancy but not a stock template, also create a small covering letter to, outlining that your looking for employment, plus what qualities you would bring to their company and attach your CV, then dress smart and go visit the companies your interested in and ask if you could either speak to the manager or the human resources manager, if they are not available leave your CV or ask if they have an email address you could send an electronic copy of your CV to, for this its a good thing to have your CV in PDF format as well as Word.

but above all be positive... you may get a few knock back sbut keep going as your ultimate job may just have been the next company you were to visit.

Also do a small bit of research on the companies your going to visit, just what they do and little bits about how the company is doing profit wise, what new products are they releaseing or selling as well as have some answers ready as to what tallents you wil bring them as you never know they may interview you their and then.

    Good Luck Mate :)

Thanks for the tips, I have a pretty good CV I think, my mum's a part time careers advisor (!!), and she's helped me with it :)

I'm currently working in a restaurant - the food is awful, it's overpriced, the manager left school when he was 13 and it shows - he's such an idiot!. Basically, waitoring just isn't for me in an environment like this.

    Anyway thanks for the words.

where abouts are you located in the UK???

Because i would suppose that matters how you go around and speak to people about employment.

Just outside of Watford. Where I live is almost 22 miles from Central London, I'm aiming for retail work in Watford though.

If you enjoy waitering, just not where you are,now is a good time to get re-employed in one of the hotel chains with christmas coming up. You can usually look at other employees when you go for interview and tell by their body language if they enjoy their work. Or even ask the person interveiwing if you could chat with an employee. If they say no, then perhaps there is a reason, and you are better off not there anyway.

If the starting salary is minimum wage, ask what the increments are and when. If it is very slow or non-existant, you can bet your bottom dollar than employee satisfaction is as low as the wages.

With regard the bitchiness, as Halo says, you will find that in every workplace to a degree. Just take a professional approach and don't get involved. If you become the target, ignore it. They soon get bored and move on to the next person :)

Good luck with the job hunt McA :D

So I went job hunting today -

PC World happily took my CV - liked it and I was in a geeky conversation with some guy in a matter of minutes. He was cool, he liked me, he wants me ;)

Toys R Us - Need to give them a call. New store has opened, and it seems like a fun place to work.

Currys - Have filled out the online form and everything I inputted they said matched their criteria which is promising :)

Sounds very promising McA, so good luck :)

PCW seems a good enough area for you to work in.

    PC WORLD OMG.

I'm certain that they'll take you. They are so understaffed around that area they'll pretty much have anyone even if they don't know how to turn a computer on, so by the sounds of it you're ahead of the game there ;)

If you got the job I might bump into you next January - I'm going to be doing a HP campaign there. In fact you'll probably see one of my coleagues in there before me. Be nice to them :p And don't expect them to know anything about anything in the store - I keep getting trainees come up to me asking where things are in the store!

Don't ever go to PC World Northolt. I'm going there tomorow to work. Hoooo dear. It's amusing in a sort of prison break way. There are so many shoplifters it's amazing. If you had a chance to see the staffroom, they'll have a pinboard full of shoplifters pictures from the CCTV - in Northolt they also have derogatory comments next to them too. The best bit is that when they see one they don't do anything about it.

Good luck with the new job.... :D
