Changing keyboard mode on a Japanese HP Laptop

    I have recently bought a Japanese laptop with Japanese OS Vista. I've been ahving a lot of troubles connecting with wireless internet and I just figured out this might have something to do with the fact that the keyboard is inputting in numbers. Some of the letter keys have numbers on the front and it's inputting in those numbers. Any idea how to change that setting so I can input in letters?
