Changing user ID in Firefox

    Firefox was playing up a little today, and a small box popped up showing two user IDs - one for me, and another called Default. I thought if I selected the Default ID it might sort out the problems, but what has happened is that now I've lost my latest Firefox with all the bookmarks and stored logins and passwords.

    My question is - how do I get the box back to select my user ID?

    Thanks for any help.

    You get that pop-up asking for profile when there is an instance of firefox already running.
    CTRL+ALT+DEL

    End Process all instances of firefox.exe that are running in Processes

    Restart Firefox

    If your bookmarks don't come back, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles; where %USER% is your UserID. Delete any folder that is not xxxxxxxx.default, where xxxxxxxx is 8 random characters.

    Thanks.

    There is only one file that matches your description, and it's 8 characters followed by "default user", which has several sub-folders called cache, chrome, extensions.

    There is another profile called default.j9y. Is it that one I should delete?

    Where is the one I created and called by my own name, do you know?

    There should only be one folder under the Profiles directory. Delete the one that is not followed by .default

    If you are not sure which one then do the following

    Start -> Run

    firefox.exe -p

    Ok

    if you don't get the profile manager then

    Start -> Run

    firefox.exe -profilemanager

    Ok

    delete all profiles that are not the default.

    Thanks very much indeed. Problem now solved. (Wipes sweat and tears from face).

    Happy Monday.

    I dont have the link where I downloaded it, but suggest you do a search for MozBackup 1.3.2 . It backs up all your bookmarks, cookies, etc., in Firefox. Backing up takes about 5 seconds. I back up daily. If somthing goes haywire - I can restore my stuff in a flash.
