    Hi Guys!

I have a legit XP Product Key that came with my 2 year old Dell system. My friend had a Dell CD with SP2 embedded in it from a newer PC, which I took because I thought it would be a hassle to perform the updates, but what I did not realise is that after installation the Dell CD with the SP2, it put in its own Product ID. which I am afraid of. Is there anyway for me to remove it and insert the Product ID from the sticker on my machine?

    Sincerely,
    Lev

Yes, but it must match what's installed.

For example, OEM must use an OEM product key, etc etc.

There are plenty of free apps that allow you to change it.

Windows XP Product Key Modifier. We also have heaps more like RockXP and Magic JellyBean etc.

There are Registry hacks, but why bother when the solution is simple and free.

    Thank you!

I will look into them when I get home. My original CD was from Dell and the one I installed with SP2 was also from Dell. I hope it works!

    Thanks once again.

    You're welcome.

It should work, if not, post back and there may be other suggestions, or at least an explanation.
