chaning oem that windows detects

How can I change the OEM's name on windows so that windows thinks another oem was the computer manufacturer instead of the original one?

 

C:\windows\sytem32\oeminfo.ini

edit that file and things should be relatively obvious inside.

oh yeah, and if you want to edit the picture of the manufacturer (if you have a picture), it'll be oemlogo.bmp in the same folder

Not working.

For some reason, this windows2000 cd I got keeps saying I need to be using a Dell to use it. Where is it detecting whether or not it's a dell? What's missing in the registry or whatever? I'm using a dell, but I have to let windows know I'm using one somehow...

 

Tonglebeak: Does it tell you that when you boot, or when you click the setup in windows? If thats it, there IS a patch for that, but im 30% sure it would be considered warez on here, which would get me in trouble. But ill tell you how the check works and you gleen whatever you will out of it. The stub loader for the setup checks for a dell bios. If it is a genuine dell system, the loader will return 3 characters, +++. If it is NOT a dell bios, it returns a --- (3 minuses). Common sense and simple math knowledge helps us conclude the outcome and effect of each of these 2 values. AFAIK, it doesnt look at anything in the registry either..But since your using a dell, i dont know why it isnt working. A few months ago, a buddy of mine acquired many dell XP home and 2000 Pro OEM cd's. Needless to say those 20 CD's were useless. We both tried for about 5 hrs to get them to work, all the while applying patches out the wazoo to the stuff...still a no go. If you do have any luck id like to know about it by all means!!!
