Cheap or free data conversion - Brother (700D and 3550) to PC

First I'd like ti say Hey!! to all my fellow security folk and that I hope to have time to become involved here. Have been at another forum for six years as a mod/trusted source but time and unemployment took its toll.

Love the help MG provides for the general populous in cleaning and guarding against threats and risk.

Now to the request for help:

My father has much of his life documented on these old floppies. Unknown formats etc at this time. At this time all this is useless and he is in process of writing a book - needs this old data.

At any rate we are both poor/unemployed etc and we are aware that some of the disks may be damaged due to poor storage; but desperately need a source to capture and convert Brother (700D and 3550) to PC format. He now has a PC but can't use this data.

Have searched and googled a bit and most options look pricey. Any solutions would be most greatly appreciated.
