check disk problems

I am not able to run a defrag, a window pops up saying that i need to run chkdskf/. I try to run check disk and it tells me that it is unable to run, do i want to schedule chkdsk for next reboot, i say yes and nothing happens. HELP! I am ran a read only chkdsk that found errors but will not fix them. What do I do?
I am running windows XP, fairly new computer (less than 2 years) loads of memory free. But cant do any maintenance on the thing, at this rate it will make a beautiful paper weight.

I'm not sure if you have tried this defrag or if you are using the one in windows. try this defrag and see if it continues through. Then run cclearner (below) and after that scans do chk disk and see if it works then. Just a thought....

just out of curiosity when you scheduled the check disk function did you restart your computer it should have gone straight into the scan mode or does it go straight to windows desktop

 

Your check disk issue seems to be a glitch on some computers running windows. I believe it could potentially be a service pack problem. The solution is simple:

Right click the hard drive you would like to run check disk on, and select whatever options you want [ie: scan, fix, or both]. When your prompted to restart the pc to have it scan click "Yes". Your pc will than boot up again and nothing will happen. You will get back to your desktop without it running check disk at all. Now repeat the same steps to run check disk as I mentioned [yes do it twice right away]. It will RUN the second time you reboot your pc.

Remember that check disk may take hours to complete depending on the options you choose. But it is very important to always run a full scan at least once a year.
