Chipset won't install

I finally found out what my actual chipset is (Intel 82875P). I believe that it is probably a special chipset made for dell. I've been trying to install the updated chipset but when it says that it is done and to restart, when I restart it still shows version A03 instead of A13. How do I go about actually getting it to install?

Chipset drivers are one thing, and a BIOS revision is another. The A03 and A13 you are referring to are BIOS revision levels, and will not be affected by installing chipset drivers. You can get chipset drivers that will work on some Dell boards from Intel's website-- if you know exactly what you need-- but BIOS revisions for a Dell board are going to have to be gotten from Dell. Is there a part number printed on the board?

Right, which is where I got the Chipset Installation Utility. The version that says is being installed is "5.0.1012" but the driver version that is shown in the device manager is "5.0.1006". Another odd thing I just noticed is that under System devices is that some of the objects have "Intel 82801EB" in their name.

If you're concerned that your chipset is unique to your manufacturer, you might want to consider using drivers from http://support.dell.com instead. They archive drivers for all their systems, so this route you'll get exactly what you're after. Also, you should know that you should have your chipset drivers installed before any others.

That's exactly where I got the chipset utility ;).

Heh, sorry. Thought I had read you got them from Intel. I'm going crazy today.

What exactly are you doing to install? After extracting the drivers ...they should be found under cabs .(explore ...under c:/ cabs....open that folder and there should be an setup exe. file to install.

The files are extracted by default to c:\dell\drivers. I just ran the setup.exe utility again and i still see nothing changed in the device manager.

In device manager, you've hit update driver and pointed it to the new driver?

Nope. It's a setup utility that runs like installing a program. I'll try it.

Aware of that ...have done it before and never a problem with the new chipset installing ....just suggesting a different approach to see the extent of the problem.:) :)

This is just bizarre ....try contacting Dell about the problem (through their e-mail support).
