chipset

my buddy has an AMD athlon due core 5000+ 2gb ram and hes having problems that upsating the chipset drivers would fix i thinkkkkk i've never updated my chipset but i have a feeling it would work any help

We need the make and model of the PC and/or the motherboard. The chipset drivers are not directly related to the CPU, so knowing the make and model of the CPU doesn't really tell us which chipset drivers you need.

 

There are special drivers and an optimizer you can download for AMD dual core CPU's, all you would have to do is go to the AMD site and search for "processor drivers and utilities" or just go to their support and drivers page. A motherboard is a separate device for the CPU, the mobo as its sometimes abbrieviated consists of a socket for the cpu, input and outputs, a north bridge chipset and a southbridge chipset. There can also be usb/audio/ethernet or network/video etc. chips on the board. So if you build your own pc, the motherboard you buy comes with a disk with all the drivers necessary for the chips on the motherboard. If you buy an OEM PC (prebuilt by e-machines Dell etc.) you will have to visit their site to see if you can download new drivers for the specific mobo it was built with. Free programs like Aida32 and Everest Home are system information applications that examine the PC and then tell you about the parts its built with. They can help you ID your motherboard. The surest way though is to peek inside, often the motherboards model number and revision are screen printed on the board somewhere (typically between the pci slots).
