chk dsk issues

notification bubbles keep popping about on my screen about google chrome file being corrupt or font files when i close a pdf, i have tried running the chk dsk utility in all ways i could find but the system just reboots without doing the check, please advise before i loose my computer

Sounds like you need to might need to run some hard drive diagnostics - do you happen to know the drive manufacturer and model?

Also, when you run CHKDSK you need to make sure you enable the 'fix file system errors' and 'scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' functions: a quick tutorial for this is located here.

Since you have a Western Digital drive, I suggest you download and run the Data Lifeguard diagnostics to check your drive.

 

thanks a bunch, at least that went a bit further than the chk utility, but when prompted to fix problems, it says "error was detected when repairng sectors" and stops then advises to contact WD technical support, which am trying as i type this.

I strongly advise that you begin steps to salvage any important data from that drive - the detection errors and the "contact WD technical support" can only mean that the drive is failing.
