CHKDSK Errors

Hi-
For some reason, my HDD is developing errors every other day, for no apparent reason. System is running XP Pro SP3.
In Recovery Console, I run CHKDSK /P and one or more errors are found. Then run CHKDSK /R (which takes forever!) to repair. After the /R switch concludes, I run /P again, and it's fine- that is, for a day or two.
The health of the drive is fine, according to WD S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics. There is no malware in the machine.
Could someone please give me a hand with this anomaly?... I appreciate it.

try running a memtest to check the memory.

 

Thanks for the replies, guys... sorry for the late 'get back'.

Data Cable is new, haven't ran a Mem Test- indeed, the machine is a desk top.

No BSOD's, nor OS internal errors.

I have run SFC /SCANNOW on a couple of recent occassions, and both times was asked to insert my Windows disk. Apparently, a system file(s) was missing or corrupt... but why?

I just can't report as to why I have to implement these repeated, in short sequence, CHKDSK and SFC /SCANNOW procedures.

I'll respond back after a Mem Test.
