On startup it starts the CHKDSK and just keeps looping until I manually cancel it.

When I try to run the defrag program I get Chkdsk /f "cannot run while chkdsk is pending?" I hope I got this straight. One more thing "szkg Driver" showed up during a scan. Could this be corrupted?

Greetings and welcome to Majorgeeks. Hopefully someone will be able to help ye out, if I can't. :)

Instead of using chkdsk /f c:,. try using chkdsk /r c: ( /r is a longer process, but goes through 5 separate stages).

    Then try a defrag.

If this still doesn't work, try booting from the xp cdrom disc and go into recovery console, then run chkdsk from there, then exit, and reboot back into xp and check defrag.

Also, you may want to check out the following reg key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
Look at KEY = BootExecute Make sure it is set for : autocheck autochk *
