?Chkdsk Prob.

Hi,
When I run "chkdsk" the display window says the following:" The file system is NTFS. Warning F parameter is not specified. Running chkdsk in read only mode." Is there a problem here or a wrong setting somewhere. I have no F Disk, Just A Disk = Floppy, C=HDD, D= AUDIO/DVD. TY Boneyeye.

Specs:
Amd Semperon(tm)2600+, HDD 74.52GB, RAM 768MB,
WinXP2 Home Edition

 

/f refers to the fix parameter. Without parameters, chkdsk only displays the status of the disk in the current drive. Running chkdsk without parameters is not a problem.

If you wish chkdsk to fix errors on volume c type in: chkdsk c: /f

You can't fix problems while the OS is running. Locking the disk is a term that Chkdsk uses. You don't have to do anything.

When it says it can't lock the disk it should ask if you want to run the app on the next reboot say yes and then restart your computer.

Chkdsk will then run BEFORE your OS is loaded essentialy "Locking" the disk so it can check for/repair any problems it might find.

Hope this clears it up a little.
