Chkdsk Ran This Morning

Booting up CHKDSK ran. Appears it checked C: drive but everything seems OK. C:\ only contains Windows. 120 GB and is getting old. Should I be very concerned? Don't really want to get into replacing the drive at the moment as extremely busy this time of year.

Busy or not it's time to take a good hard look at your backup situation. If your main drive holds your data as well as Windows itself then ensure it is backed up externally as frequently as the data itself gets changed. Losing Windows itself and your other software is not so catastrophic as it can relatively easily be replaced but I would advise taking a disk image right away and updating it every few days. However your data files may need more than that, only you know. No one knows whether or when the disk may fail - just ask yourself how bad the situation may be if your computer wasn't working tomorrow morning and take action if necessary.

 

OK so I'm back and finally have time to work on the hard drive and get to use my computer again. Looking at upgrading to SSD. Existing drive is Brracuda ST3120026AS. There is Kingston 480GB on sale locally. It's 2.5 inch so I'm told needs an adapter. Is that adapter just for mounting? Will the existing SATA cable not work?
