Choice of 2 CPU's

Hello & MerryChristmas,
Ok Ive been looking around on the net for a bit deciding wich 1 of these CPU;s to go for,but I still cant figure out what 1 to go for.Its between these to (up till now,unless some1 can recommend anything better)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz 1066FSB LGA775 2MB cache Retail inc.Fan=£140

Intel Pentium® 4 D 940 Dual core 2x3.2GHz 800FSB LGA775 2x2MB cache Retail inc.Fan=£130

and Im also looking at this motherboard
Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA motherboard skt775 VIA PT880 1066FSB PCI-E AGP 8x SATA RAID LAN ATX=£37.

It will be mostly for gaming I will be using it for so to me the Pentium 4 D 2x3.2Ghz sounds better,but what do you think.Cheers.

 

Dude you already know that newer is Better...

 

Mate.I asked for a bit of advice please.Wich 1 IS better.I havnt a clue about this type of stuff.

 

Yeah, the Core 2 Duo is the newer, and most definitely the faster processor.

 

Ok thanks.1 other thing thow,do I need to reinstall windows or can I just put my hard drive in the new motherboard as it is and it will work.You know with all my files as stuff on it.If I do have to reinstall windows do I format my hard drive first in this set up then install my new motherboard and CPU then reinstall windows.As you can tell I need a bit of advice again here.I dont want to feck this up.

 

You will need to reinstall Windows. The best thing to do is to backup all of your important files. Then run the Windows installation and it will format the drive for you.

 

intel duo aree the fastest chips on the market right now as we speak..and im very very pleased!!! i so cant wait for vista when stuff will be 2 gpu,so u can use the 2 cpus!!!But yeah intel duo much quicker,faster,and nothing can touch them right now.BUt in 3 months amd has something better but who cares!!!! i love them and this is the best cessor i ve ever bought

 

Here's my 2 cents: ASRock motherboards are not that great. I have worked with lots of 'em (in the past) and have had problems w/ 1 out of every 5 or 6 NEW ASRock boards. On board ethernet is slow or doesn't work at all; sound problems from static, to skipping audio, to no audio; dead USB ports/headers; you get the idea... and this is with BRAND NEW motherboards!! When ASRock motherboards are working, they're great and seem to last... but they have low quality control....

The only reason I was going for the Asrock Board was that I need a board with AGP support.The Asrock has a PCI Express & AGP socket,so I in the future I wanted a PCI Graphics card then Im all set,but at the minute Im just going to use my current AGP card with whatever board I can get to support it.But if any 1 knows of another board with this setup I would be pleased to here from you.Cheers.
