I am so bored of the typical soundtracks used in games. Is there a way I can set a file from my library to be played instead of the default? I did it once by letting Media Player in the backround but I had some lag. I suppose the musicfile played is located somewhere in the game files, if I could just replace it with a file of my choice.... but I guess it can't be that simple :(.
    Ideas?.......

Depends on the game. Some games have a folder or a setting for custom music files, especially indie games or games made with a philosphy of modibility. Most games don't have custom music options, and use compressed music files which are not MP3s.

Your best bet might be to use a different program than media player to play music in the background, which uses less system resources, such as the "mplayer2" (start->run->mplayer2) or a simple downloaded music player. You will probably always notice a slight performance hit doing this, though.

    Thanks for the replies, guys.
you mean system specs? that would be
    Athlon 64 3500+
    Asus x1600 Pro (slightly o/c)
    1GB DDR
    Tagan 420 PSU

if you mean game specifics... well it's more than one game. Mostly the FPS ones like Battlefield 2 or SWAT 4.

I'll try the low resources player to see if it makes any difference.

Games that support "modding" usually have an editor that enables you to add content to the game. My experience is limited to TES:Oblivion but the TES Construction Set that is available for the game, allows music and graphics to be inserted. They also have an "archive invalidation" text file, where you can place the list of user-added files meant to over-ride the game's internal system files. This technique is used by many Oblivion modders to replace the music for that game. Check out your game and "modding" on the net -- you may be able to something similar. :)
