Christmas in July

In Australia, December is sweltering Summer heat, so Christmas is commonly spent picnicking with friends on the beach:cool or informal BBQs (or die hards having the more formal, sit down roast lunch/dinner - too heavy for such hot weather!).

To accommodate those who miss the cold weather Christmases, "Christmas in July" kicked off twenty odd years ago and the tradition is ongoing for our Winter months.

So this time of year we celebrate Christmas in July with friends in colder locations (like our Blue Mountains or Snow country).

Here's a link to give you an idea:

Anyone in other countries do the same? Or something similar for other occasions?

    Love to hear about it!

I usually have a Christmas in July, most years. Trouble is, on the west coast, the Blue Mountains are 3,000 miles away. Virtually may well book flight to the U.K., come December, and have the 'real deal', LoL. ;)

"Colder locations" and Winter, have visited Cairns early this year.
Last couple of nights the temperatures have dropped to "freezing" for us.
    Down to 11 Degrees Celcius.:cool:cool:cool

On-line Temperature conversion link at http://www.onlineconversion.com/temperature.htm
    calculates 11 degree Celsius = 51.8 degree Fahrenheit.:D

Freezing, for us. Now where's that jumper/cardigan/sweater/pullover?
I know I own one, somewhere. ;) Bazza

Family in Tassy and you've not visited them yet! Hear Tasmania is beautiful country, even if it is "overseas" to us on the mainlaind:p

Backpackers have it good (from what I've seen) in Aussie...their locations are brilliant! Perhaps your mate will make a Yule Fest Down Under;) particularly mid-Winter around 25 June when the festivals occur.

    Cheers

Ahem! Aussie having an English background, we've been driving on the right side of the road while your lot were still in the wilderness!:p:D (Oh, ho...time to duck after that remark!:duck)

As for the seasons....who can complain about living in a country where you can go up North and the Barrier Reef, enjoy warm, balmy weather, then go snow skiing in the same week on the same continent!:p;):D

    Cheers

    Yep. :)
Even Townsville is too far south for me. :D
(200 miles, 350K's south of Cairns, for non-Aussies)
Last 35 years in the Tropics. Not so :cool here usually.
Blood is now to thin. ;) Bazza

Though I love the snow, since my back injury I've had to cut back sports and skiing is one of them:(:cry (Miss those black ski runs *sigh*)...Anyway, so Katoomba with its grandeur and wonderful mountains works a treat for me in July - just cold enough but not enough to make me miss the snow.:)

There is even a guest house there with a touch of "Fawlty Towers" which makes for a lot of fun when dropping in for a hot cocoa (or hot toddy!), or going there for an evening meal and show.

    Cheers

Hello legalsuit! I am new to this forum so if I post this in the wrong place let me know. I wonder if Northern Beaches is Sydney or up my way near Lismore? Would like to make contact, especially re cyberforcefield. Although I have the status of a cockroach on this forum, you may be interested to know that my father was solicitor general of Tasmania and later deputy chairman of the administrative appeals tribunal. Is there a way to contact you privately?

    Hi Cyberwoman,

Northern Beaches is in Sydney - northern side of Harbour Bridge. (I drive near Lismore on route to QLD when I go up North). You're roughly half way between Sydney and Surfers (fair distance).

I've enabled private messaging so you can contact me through that if you wish.

    Cheers:wave
