Chrome Clean up tool

Made the mistake of clicking it and woe is me.

After using restore function the Google Home Page was almost back to normal except it will not display the "home" icon. Have to shut down Google and restart to be able to do a different search. Any suggestions?

What operating system and what is the browser that has the Google Home Page problem?

 

Using Windows 7. Browser is Google Home page. It has crossed my mind that this may have been a method by Google to enable them to dump home icon and make changes by going about it in a round about way. Telling people may have resulted in complaints and backlash. That being the case maybe one has to adapt to using new tab to do other searches. None of the anti-malware programs detected anything amiss.
