Hi, can anyone help me please? My Lenovo Flex 2-14 will not open any pages / links in Chrome.
For a while now it has been a bit erratic and sluggish. Today it opened OK as usual but when I opened Google in Chrome and did a search it wouldn't respond to the search.
It won't open any quick links either.
    The donut goes round.
    Any ideas please?

When was the last time you defraged the hard drive.

Or run a chkdsk /f in command prompt.

Are all the lights on your modem or gateway correct? Please post the make and model of your internet hardware.

Are you still running Windows 8.1 or have you upgraded to Win 10?

I regularly defrag with Advanced System Care using Smart Defrag. There never seems to be a problem.
I have not run chkdsk/f so will try that now.
    Thanks for replying, Jan

I have SKY and think it's working fine as all other equipment is OK. Have attached pic of the box.
I updated to windows 10 a long time ago.
    Thanks for replying, Jan

Jan, it's rather improbable that your inability to open pages in Chrome is being caused by disk errors, which is what chkdsk is looking for. Edge is Win 10 inbuilt browser. If you can open pages in Edge then try reinstalling Chrome.

If you post for help with something else, please add that it is only 1 computer or it is all other computers/tablets/phones in the house.
I would have tackled the problem from a different angle.

Note for me: 10.0.18363.900 is build 1909.

I have the 2004 build current.

When op was talking about erratic and sluggish i am thinking errors on hard drive.Errors on drive can have a major impact.

Type this as is below. highlight it right click then copy. Then just left click in command prompt then crtl +v for past.

    chkdsk /f

don't mind me i have been up all night.

@wile - chkdsk has to be run as admin or OP will get another error

When did that change.I never had to use admin up until now to do a chkdsk /f.

It's been that way since Win 7 at least. Just tried it.

@Jordyjan if you would still like to do the disk check the sure way to do it is to open Explorer and right click your C drive > Properties > Tools > Check and reboot.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. My puppy chewed through my laptop cable so I am a bit delayed in trying to solve the problem!
The laptop although sluggish is working OK apart from being unable to use various browsers to access internet. I have tried Chrome Edge Opera. They open their own search page but will not go to the internet for searches our favorites.
2 phones and an iPad are using our home internet for searches with no problem.
I have run the usual internet diagnostics but they find no problems.
    I have reset the router.
I have tried doing a system restore but get the error message
    System restore failed error 0x80070005
I have made sure that Volume Shadow Copy in Services is running and on automatic.
I am assuming it's some sort of issue between this laptop and my internet specifically. Would that be right?
Also I need to get system restore to work. It is creating restore points OK.
Anyone got any ideas what to try next please?
    Many thanks, Jan

You might have more success with system restore if you run it in safe mode. If system restore doesn't help try this -

Am I right in reading that you have no internet at all on your laptop? If so it's an issue between your laptop and your Sky Hub and I recommend you use another computer to download the free version of Tweaking.com to a flash drive. Insert the flash drive in your laptop and install the program. Reboot into safe mode, start the program and run 13 - Network Repair. If that doesn't sort it then run all the tests twice, again in safe mode. Good luck!

Another thing to check is whether your network adapters in Device Manager have any yellow warning icons. You might want to do this first and let us know.

Well, I'm not sure what happened but it's working! I can get emails etc on each browser.

I have not resolved system restore though so would still like advice on that please.

I will also check device manager as you suggest.

I will download Tweaking.com whilst I have internet in case I need it.

    Many thanks, Jan

If you have tried system restore in safe mode without success I can only suggest you run the system file checker. Open an elevated command prompt and type sfc /scannow

Hi, I did not try a system restore in safe mode because it all started working again so I didn't want to mess with it.
Everything does seem to be working OK but it is all really really slow! Even booting up takes ages and I'm wondering if, in fact, it was always working but just so slow that I gave up waiting? Is this possible?
I really appreciate everyone's help and wonder if anyone could possibly help me with speeding things up a bit.
Will 'wile e coyote' and 'plodr' automatically see this post too as I would like to thank them too?
    Many thanks, Jan

I read threads, so yes I saw your message.

That could be a sign of a hd going bad or a very full hd.
If this is your laptop https://laptops.rawdev.com.ng/lenovo-flex-2-14-specs-details-information-and-features/
it appears it comes with Windows 8.1 and a 500GB hd.

I assume you upgraded it to Windows 10. Has it been slow since the upgrade?
How much of the 500GB hd is filled?

I see it also came with 4GB of RAM. 4GB would be fine for Win 8.1 but Windows 10 needs more so it doesn't crawl.
