Cicada Guts Still On My Windsheild!

The cicadas have been gone for weeks but peices of them are still on my windsheild. I have been trying to get them off for over a month now. I tried using windex, dish soap, and whatever is in the bucket at the gas station lol. I know these aren't quite hydrochloric acid, but I was worried about using something too powerful. When the glass is wet, it doesn't appear that there is anything there. But when the glass dries, there are streaks across the window.

Its interesting how there got to be streaks on the glass. I was on the expressway and a cicada managed to fly perfectly into my car and get stuck in the wipers. His legs were somehow stuck under the wipers and the wind resistance wasn't enough to get him off. So I turned on the wipers in hopes to get the mess of guts off the window and it created one amazing smear. I wasn't exactly expecting this since I never had a bug quite the size of a cicada hit my car. I tried using the wiper fluid but that didn't do anything. Their guts seem to be almost wax in the way that they repel liquid. However, I would much rather be removing the wax!

Does anyone have the same problem or have any idea how I can get the streaks off my car? Thanks for the help.

If it's anything like the lovebugs in Texas in the summer, you probably need to find an auto care product that can soften up bug guts and chiton without messing up your finish.

What's even more fun is bug guts all over the visor of your motorcycle helmet.

    Up close and personal.

    Eeeewwwwwww :(

jonathan, try removing the grime with vinegar. Use a soft cloth to wipe it on. Wash it off with hot soapy water & you should be good to go.

I find that Robinsons lighter fluid or zippo fluid does a great job of getting bug guts off of stuff.

Speak of the devil!... The same exact thing happened to me on one of my many drives from Maryland to New Jersey... I was driving along the highway and the god damn bugger got lodged in my wind shield wiper... He was squirming around so my natural reaction was the turn the wipers on and hopefully jar him loose... Whoops... shmeared him all over my windshield and left a white streak mark all over the windshield... Funny thing is the same exact thing happened to my sister a few weeks before.... I imagine those are some pretty slim chances, the cicadas getting lodged in the windshield wipers, especially when you're cruisin along the highway at 80 mph...

Try some Windex on your windshield, i don't see why that wouldn't take off the streakmarks...

Whatever you end up using, be sure to come back after with a coat of wax on any painted areas you cleaned.

LOL. Got nailed on the cheek by a grasshopper some years back at about 60 mph. Openfaced Bell helmet and sun glasses. Between the impact and the mess, I thought I'd been shot for a second.

So are you saying that you aren't quick enough to catch them before they catch you? Just kiddin! I wear a full face when the love bugs come out. Other than that, I also have a windshield that does a nice job on 'em ;) Of course, when I get home, I usually wash them off the bike so they don't end up as permanent fixtures.

Have you tried a bottle of coke shook and sprayed on the window?
I have seen ppl do that to clean the love bugs.
