Im looking at purchising a Zipit Wireless Messenger to chat while im away fron my computer. I am trying to findo out how effective it would be. It says it connects to 802.11b/g wireless home networks or free hotspots. If my home isnt b/g wireless does that mean i can't use it around the house....and can i not use it in the car? It says it picks up 300 feet. please clarify how effective this device would be!

i dont know anythin about the product mentioned above but if your home network is not 802.11b/g then this will NOT work with your network for sure.

what if my neighbor's home is 802.11b/g wireless and I am within 300 feet?

    1. Forget about 300'. Indoor (depending on the envioroment), it is probably more like 40-60'

    2. You can use any 802.11b/g Wireless signal, provided that the person is allowing to do so, and providing you with the parameters to log On.

i think i might pick one up and test it out and ill return it if it dosent work!

  6. It does work as advertised. It picks up my neighbor's networks all of the time easily from my house. I even walk out to pick up my mail at my mailbox that is 150-200 ft from where my router is located.

Some network setups do have trouble with some walls and floors inside a house, so you could end up with dead spots in the house. However, Zipit Wireless Messenger does have a very solid Wi-Fi implementation and can pick up even the weakest networks.
    :)
