Alright, I downloaded a small .avi video clip. I am trying to play it in Windows media player, but i get error message 80040111 (class factory does not support requested class). I've been looking for .avi codecs, but none of them work.

Can someone please give me a link to a working .avi codec download (if that is the problem), or tell me how i can get the file to play?

    Thanks in advance!

hmm... I clicked one of the links next to the "Ads by Google" link (near the top of the page). It was for AVI converting. It took me to a list of sites that had trial downloads of programs you could download and use to convert movie files.

I forgot what the program is called (its on my home computer and i am on my work computer right now). But basically all you do is select the movie file, then choose what format you want to convert it to (MPEG, WMV, MOV, etc...), and then choose a folder for you to save the conversion to. I havent had time to use it yet. But before I do try it, and before i ruin the movie file by tinkering with it with that program, I would like your opinion(s) on it.

Will that program do the trick?

that wont screw with my WMP 9, will it?

Like, when i doubleclick a video clip, i dont want it to play in Classic unless it doesnt work in 9. What im trying to ask is, if i install classic, will it uninstall 9, or make it so that all my video and audio play in classic instead of 9?

No it won't do that. It's a stand alone program that does not replace any of your current media players.

I don't think it will make itself the default for anything but you can go into tools>options>file types in WMP and change it back if it does. :)

so that instead of downloading a whole other version of windows media player, just to play AVI's, i could just convert the AVI's to WMV's and be done with it.
