classic media player problems.

    i'm running xp.recently,i downloaded media player classic.however,when it starts to open a file,an error message appears saying"classic media player has encountered a problem and must shut down".it does this on all files i try to play,they never start,just that error message and shutdown.does anyone know why this is happening and if theres a way to correct the problem,thanks
